A story following two fish that form a friendship under the overwhelming thunder of the 4th of July. Overcoming fear of the unknown, with a fresh feeling in the water. These two characters, along with all of the creatures of the sea, have a magical time to remember as the fireworks enchant the sea. Callie, being scared of everything, and Ondine, being afraid of nothing, choose to partner up to share this unexplainable event.

This story was created to reflect on summer being a time of joy and embracing unexpected connections, thereby naming the protagonist Callie, meaning "free person", and the hero, Ondine, meaning “little wave”.

When a Catfish turns human

Growing up visiting family from the Caribbean, you would know someone’s confidence and self-expression just by the way they customized fabric to wrap around them. Sketching Callie. I imagined her character to still have a rigid personality who desired peace.

The final design kept her red hair, but honored the skin that reveals her fishy origin.
